note that the most important safety device is the
two sockets between your ears, then on your table saw
having macduff's
safety devices placed overhead and up front of the
blade or cutting tool, adjusts automatically for height and
width greatly reduces the dangerous kick-back which is
the most prolific encounters that amount to over 40,000
table saw accidents yearly in North America, let alone the
World. The OJJ plans will only lighten your wallet
by $10.00 US. would you like to be able to count to 10 on both hands for a lifetime of woodworking, the OJJ has most of the simple answers
A typical table saw alone takes a space about 5' x 17' (min) to rip a 8' board.
enter the OJJ at 5ft * 2.5ft to do the same with a surface area of 12.5sq.ft and it's portable with the use of a bench top table saw not requiring to be stationary in the 17ft length, it utilizes any space available, eg. the patio, garage, onsite construction, it being a knock-down, throw the unit with the benchtop saw in the back of the truck, it has big saw capabilities in a small bundle, much safer and capable of any operation.

Jim, All I can say is WOW! I appreciate all your help getting the info on your jig and accessories. I am trying to make an inexpensive table saw into something that is safe to use, and I was lucky enough to be steered your way. Thanks again for great service, Wayne S. Pasadena, MD
"Thanks for your ideas ; the plans are a great value at twice the price -- you should be teaching this stuff to younger people . Carpentry is a noble profession. I know if I was a kid; I'd light up like a thousand watt bulb with curiosity and amazement at what you do with simple tools and raw skill. The Jimmy jig is testimony to that. It's really good to run across someone who seems to be into the idea that bigger isn't always better. One of my mentors from my younger days, was this guy who had and entire shop in half of his two car garage . His shop was built around his table saw and the use of hand tools. He could do anything and he was quick. He taught me that the best tool in the shop was between the left and right ears. You've verified that concept again with the design of your jig .
Thanks again
Stan Harris"

A statement made in a track saw forum
The xxxxxxxx is in a category by itself I have run about 200 4by 8 sheets through it some of the sheets were cut into 2.5 inch strips with unsurpassed accuracy and ease, portable on the job cutting that only takes 1 person to operate, portable table saws can't do that. Not quite true if you search The OJJ and any portable table saw (other models incuded)can rip material in strips to 1/16in. with the riving knife and guard in place, simply handles 4*8 to 4ft. on
How to extend table and fence
Hello people!
I've seen that request many times and accidentally found a nice option in the web. There's a fellow woodworker in Canada (Vancouver Island) that invented what he calls the Jimmy Jig (his name is James McCombie aka Seumas - he's Scot).
I purchased a set of plans out of curiosity and was impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness of the idea. Basically it is a frame with the Rip Fence built into it (no misalignment possible if you build it right). The frame is mounted on the saw top and it slides from side to side to set the rip width.
The advantages are obvious, you get a bigger table overnight (and wider one too) and you can mount anything you fancy on simple insets. Additionally, it may be unmounted easily if required.
McCombie supplies all info to build the Jimmy Jig and many suggestions on how to mount things on it, increase safety with anti-kickback devices he designed, etc. I would say it's worth to take a look. You also get by without metalworking save for a few holes to tap. Visit megatech.tk/jj or Google for more info and videos. The plans cost USD 10 for a PDF download or you get paper copies mailed at USD 25.
I never built a JJ because I already had a big table on my shop-built saw. Perhaps you may want to take a look at it and my other shop-built machines in Seumas link on his home page
However, I liked the concept so much that I designed a variation dubbed the Jimmy Jig Workstation (JJWS for short). This was originally envisaged for a friend who never got to build it. I'm sellling a package with CAD drawn plans (9 pages) and complete instructions (17 pages) at USD 40.
I'm enclosing a couple of .pdf files with a Description and Sample Sheet. This is a more ambitious project and will not be completed as fast as the Original Jimmy Jig. However, the end result is a bigger machine, more stable and with as many or as few additions as you may want.
The JJWS is also offered in the OJJ web page as Seumas and I became friends with common interests. It is not competition to the OJJ, it's just a different approach for a different kind of user. Read the Description to learn which were my aims at design time. Then take your pick.
I hope this helps those that are forced to buy small saws due to budget or space limitations.
Cheers to you all!

Fixed or stationary fence,(copied by many but never perfected) which is at all times parallel to the blade, will never flex or yawl. You can have heavy and sustained upward pressure on any hold-down devices without any lift up of the fence. Any side pressure or bumps on the fence (heavy ply or MDF board) will never make it deviate, clamping pressure is applied all along the front edge of the table saw not levered against a front rail. Most safety and anti-kickback devices are placed up front and over head of the cutting tool or blade from the rock solid fixed fence. Can handle 4*8 sheet material to 4 ft on centre of the cut with only 12.5 sq.ft of support platform area, eliminating the need for large permanently mounted out feed and side tables also the requirement for 60lbs of steel of a t-arm system which is certainly not portable. The OJJ weighs in at about 24 to 30lbs, removable, portable from the shop to on site with the same accuracy, does not require to be set up level, adapts to any saw, large, small, new, old or bench-top, many poo at the thought of a wee bench-top being able to, you know what. The OJJ'S simple technology suggests otherwise, The unique apertured support platform can have the additions of many other cutting tools attached to a spare insert and slide inside the said aperture and used in conjunction with the stationary fence. http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=seumas2
"Nothing will help with carelessness. But someone who has NEVER read or been around/taught any idea of shop safety, is more prone to accidents then someone who has a basic understanding of the tool functions. When one doesn't have an idea, that wood can have defects in it, one tends to go blindly in. Even Push sticks and idea's like the OJJ (Seumas's design), help to keep ones hands further back." quote from woodworker
Greetings Macduff!
Thanks for the plans, pictures and for sharing your ideas. I especially like the idea of using the T-slots on top of the fence to attach a guard or all sorts of other possible stuff. You have saved me lots of time and head scratching by generously sharing your innovative and fiscally conservative thinking.
All the best,
Jeff Riches
